Montana Recap #2

Ok, so at the end of our wade day with Coach Lance, we headed to where the Madison River begins below the dam of lake Ennis. This place was amazing! There were boulders the size of trucks everywhere and the water was heavy. Upstream nymphing all the shallow pockets produced about 3-4 rainbows and white fish each. There are browns in there that can reach 5-8 lbs! I didn't hook one, but I know they are in there. In total I probably caught around 40 fish in 3 hours. I got a bunch of pictures, so here they are!

I'm Back!!! Montana/Colorado/Idaho/Wyoming Recap #1

Hey Guys! I want to start off by saying sorry for not updating this sooner. I was back last Tuesday but never got around to posting. So Without further adieu here it is.

Yellowstone River - Was too high to fish from the banks so we decided to fish the Ruby River - I waded it with my coach, Lance Wilt, and my dad. This river was loaded with browns from the 10"-20" range. We started the day fishing dry dropper. I didn't have any luck at the first hole so we moved up to the next. The water there was strong but the hole had a nice eddy so I waded out and pulled about 4 fish from it. The biggest was about 14" which was average for that river. We walked up to a spillway with a cone head zonker on. The current was strong and we tried to pull a fish from there on a streamer but had no luck. We headed out for lunch and returned within a half hour. There was a small gravel island where the river split and the main current ran to the left of it. On the other side there was a smaller stretch that ran over the island. My dad fished it first caught one. I hopped in and caught one. We repeated this process for about 8 fish. The biggest of which I caught was 18". We kept moving up and caught many more fish, none of really any size. This was one of my favorite rivers we fished, and we got some amazing pictures - thanks mom! Here are the pictures from the Ruby River:

Burns Lake - This lake was loaded with huge rainbows, cutthroat, and brook trout. The average rainbow there was 18"+...and a 16" brook trout was considered small. I caught lots of 1-2 year old cutthroats and 2 huge rainbows on a crystal wing pheasant tail nymph. Here are pictures from Burns Lake.

Eastern Angler Travels West!?

      Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been busy preparing for my trip to Montana!!!I leave tomorrow morning at 4:30, and will probably fish the Yellow Stone that day around 4:00pm. For our trip my mom, dad, and I are traveling from the Billings area to fish the Yellow Stone and move south in towards Jackson Hole. We will be fishing the Snake River, The Yellowstone River, The Madison River, and when we fly out to Denver after Montana is done we will fish the Frying Pan and the Roaring Fork. I will have some amazing content for you guys when I return and I am really excited and thankful that I am able to experience some of, if not the best trout fishing the US has to offer. First Time on The Farmington

     Last Sunday I got out to the Farmington around 5 pm. It's about a 2 hour drive for me so we got there on time and arrived at Up Country Sports. I've never seen such a selection of flies in a shop before! They have all sorts of flies for euro nymphing and for good old fashion dry fly fishing. The water is very technical and its loaded with fish! There are fish of all sizes, I caught the small ones, for the most part. I got one fish over 12". I fished about 100 yards of the boneyard hole the whole time I was there and caught 12 fish. It was an awesome evening!
     As far as flies go I caught most of my fish on a frenchie. I also caught fish on a black rubber legged stonefly fished as an anchor fly. The big thing on the Farmington right now is mice patterns! People have been having huge fish explode on mouse patterns fished throughout the Farmington. Next time you fish the Farmington, or if you fish the Farmington try a mouse pattern and you will be amazed!

I recently took a trip out to the Farmington River in New Heartford, CT. I got some great pictures and caught some awesome fish but as of now all the pictures are on my moms camera in her car:( When I get the chance I will grab it and upload some pictures and do a short write up of some things about the stream and my trip!
